Robust Help System - PLEASE :)

Post by icetoad »

I would love to see help context or a link to a help context regarding each variable on the page either next to the item on the page or a link on the page the references everything on that page. Have i lost you yet?

Here, lets say we have a faq setup or a documentation page talking about all the individual items on the "Graph Template Edit Page". It would be nice to have a link next to "Rigid Boundaries Mode (--rigid)" that links to the documentation on that specifc item. Maybe even a short description. Or even better, a popup, useful description.

I order to save time and complications, instead of having a link next to it, there could be a help link setup on the page that links to the documentation via pop-up on that particular page.

I know how hard it is to document something for someone else. I have to document things all the time and its becomes apparent that i know to much when i re-read my help and realize i left out the foundation behind the values existance or the methodology of its purpose.

This might sound lazy, but when you spend an hour trying to figure out what one thing does.. lazy no longer applies.

A good example of this system would be a sonicwall firewall interface help system. i can post examples if you want or.. you can go here: https://sonicos-standard.demo.sonicwall.com/main.html

Click on the network tab on the left, then when the window loads, click on the question mark at the top right. A pop up window will come up and show you what i mean by my second suggestion.
