Can I use Cactid by itself?

Post by Sakura »

I have a project for school and I am supposed to use the SNMP protocol. I am thinking of a script in php which will retrieve data from a MYSQL database and them build graphs and stuff based on that data.

That's easy to do, but my real problem is that I need some sort of application which should run all the time and make some snmp queries at regular interval. The snmp response should be then stored into the database for later retrieval.

For what I understood, cactid does exactly that but I don't know if I'm right or how to use it.

Can anyone help?

cactid does a lot more than that... you can look through its source code to get ideas, but sounds like you really should write your own application.

My application is mainly based on parsing the data collected from snmp agents. That is why I need a "collector" and I thought cactid could do the job.

Without me looking through the source can you tell me if I can implement cactid to do the job I need?

Look at the code... That is the only way for you to answer your own question.
