install.php instead of index.php

Post by esquimo_2ooo »

Hey all,

i've freshly installed cacti on my linux box, i've followed all the steps successfully in docs/INSTALL.htm, and then, when i go to http://myserver/cacti, i can only have install.php page.
the problem is that when i click on the "next" button, i reload the same page.
i can't have index.php to login, and btw i can neither complete the installation with install.php page.
here are some infos on my system:

Code: Select all

Ixion cacti # compinfo
Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.8p1
Linux Ixion 2.4.21 #2 SMP Mon Jun 16 15:23:07 CEST 2003 i586 Pentium MMX GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Ixion cacti # emerge -s apache cacti php mysql

i have both versions of apache, 1.x and 2.x, but i'm currently using 1.3 version.

if you have any clues, thank you to let me know

Not to dodge the actual problem, but you are using a really old version. The file "install.php" was last seen in version 0.6.8. A lot of users experienced the problem you are seeing because of register_globals issues in the 0.6.x versions.

All of these issues have been addressed in the lastest version (0.8.3a). Be sure to check it out.

is there a way to reset passwords or what ?

btw i'll check the forum to try and find a solution

i didn't find any clue.
but i checked the mysql user_auth table, and i have this for the admin password: 43e9a4ab75570f5b
i tried with a blank one, and with some other things, but i guess it's an encoded password.

thx a lot for your help !

Try setting the admin's password to '21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3' in the 'user_auth' table. This will set it to 'admin'.

Is Cacti actually rejecting your password by giving you a "Invalid User Name/Password", or is it just redirecting you back to the login screen? Also, what version of PHP are you running?

As a random "You're not crazy" note, it's looking like a Gentoo problem. I just did "emerge cacti" and found this thread because I'm having the same problem -- you go to /cacti, and get install.php. Click next, and it takes you nowhere at all. (It loads the exact same page.) Gentoo for some reason still ships 0.6.8a. (Interestingly, the only stuff I found in the Gentoo forums about this was complaints about how Cacti was pretty buggy? Maybe if it was updated...)

Anyway, I'm off to download the latest build from this site (as opposed to the Gentoo package). Hope I have better luck. :)

Thanks for posting this... I always love to hear reassurance that I am not crazy ;-). To be more specific, the problem all of the Gentoo users are experiencing is that PHP's register_globals is not turned on... which 0.6.8 requires. Let's hope they update their package soon.
