How to set up simple ping latency graph?

Post by acutchin »

I am a n00b here, and have RTFM, but still can't figure out how to configure a simple ping latency graph for a non-SNMP host.

Can someone please break down the steps to create the necessary devices, data queries, data input methods, graph trees, graphs, etc. to do so?

This is yum install of cacti-0.8.6h-6.fc4 on fedora core 4.

Thanks!

1) Goto Scripts/Template's and get Advanced Ping Template
2) Leave your community string blank.
3) Be well and prosper.

I have the same setup as acutchin... and the same LACK of well being and prosperity.

The Advanced ping template I imported to generate the various components came from 2005 from the main forum thread.

It Doesn't Seem to create the script server XML files under <cacti_dir>/resources/...

with this template it tries to run scripts/ss_fping.php outside the script server... and barfs all over itself.

The aforementioned "Scripts/Templates" (being of the old broken XML) are useless.

Where EXACTLY does one find the current..(works with -6.fc4) xml to generate the correct data sources?

Thanks,

Advanced Ping template does not require any XML in Resources. If you are pinging ICMP in Unix, you poller must run as root. Otherwise, you can ping TCP/UDP no problem.

It's best to run inside the script server. Sorry you are having problems.
