Graphs hit a ceiling

Post by otis »

I'm running cacti 0.8.6h, have a question. I am graphing gigabitethernet interfaces from a switch, but it messes up when the traffic goes above 100 mbit. I've read to switch to 64 bit counters by (I think) using SNMP V2 instead of SNMP V1, so I've done this and modified the data source and rrd files using rrdtool tune for a bigger counter max (10000000000). Unfortunately the problem persists. Have I switched to 64 bit counters properly or is there something else which is eluding me?

Have you also adjusted your graph template? You may be interested in the 64bit counter graph template that i posted in this thread:

I added that template in and switched to it but there was no change in the graph's limit. Do you / anyone else have any another suggestions?

Changing existing 32bit graphs to 64 bit won't work (at least, not the simple way). You will have to re-create as 64 bit graphs. If you won't loose existing data, you may dump your old rrd file and restore it with the name of the new one (you will have to rrdtool tune the maximum to accomplish the settings of the new one)
