File Permissions Issues

Post by RockHound »

I am not sure if this has been discussed before and if it has please provide a link.

I recently migrated my cacti server from a FreeBSD machine to a Redhat machine. Everything went fairly well, with the exception of one minor problem.

When I add a device to cacti it creates RRD files in the RRA directory with the following permissions:

rw-r--r-- cactiuser cacti ##insert filename here##

As far as I can tell these are the appropriate permissions, but once the file is created cacti cannot read the file. This is the same for the log directory as well. The owner of these directories is also the user specified in the cron job. The only thing that I can figure is that there is another username somewhere, but I do not know where. Any suggestions?

See the crontabs for the userids cacti is using during polling. And make sure, your web server has at least read access to all of them (web server's log may help)
