YES, I strongly agree. That was exactly what we are thinking about.
And it would be great we can use it in the graph template as a variable (notes, graph_info.. or something like that) or in the Header line, so that we can filter on textstrings in the info.
We intend to fill in the cdp neighbor info ( next devicename, devicetype and interface) and syslocation and syscontact info.
The lenght may be up to 128 or 256 character. Let us raise an official feture request in Mantis.

Seems more like a job for a plugin. It would be fairly simple to add a note field to the device page, the graph template option would require a few more hooks and a lot more work.
