RRDTool: Access Denied

Post by paulio »

I have recently installed Cacti 0.8.6h on a windows server.
I have added a couple of devices but cannot seem to graph them.
When I turn on graph debug mode the RRDTool command says GRAPH ACCESS DENIED.
Any ideas would be very much apprecaited.

Thanx.

1) Do you get this message when you're logged onto the console?
2) Do other graphs work fine?
3) You might have a permisison problem, read http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=11747

Thanks for your reply.

I do not get any error messages when I'm logged onto the console.

As yet I havent been able to graph anything?
Although I have tried to graph CPU usage on the actual Cacti server I see the graph but no results? & this is the only created graph that doesnt show that error message.

Any ideas?

Seems like you've changed the cacti user settings so that the guest user does not have access to the graph(s) you are trying to view. Go into the user management and correct the problem.

As for the blank working graph, make sure rrdtool has a proper path+font in cacti's settings.

Cacti Graphs

Post by paulio »

Hi,

I have ensured user managment is setup correctly. I only login as Admin anyway.

Please see attached my cacti.log

SNMP works, the rrd files are created in the rrd directory ok.

Any help on this tricky setup of graphs?

thanx in advance.

Your log file is not in debug mode so it's worthless. Please read the last entry in my faq.

So even when you're logged on as admin you're still getting GRAPH ACCESS DENIED?

When you go to graph mangement, click on a graph, then click on enable graph debug. What error do you get?

I get exactly the same error

here is a screen shot.

The installation guide for windows must be better, it will work if you used to *nix, but a regular windows admin will not make it.

That undefined index error you've got is also a problem. Make sure you've got the correct NTFS permissions set up for IUSR_COMPNAME on all Cacti files/folders. I suggest you use Sysinternals.com FileMon to check if you have any access denied errors.

Have you modfied the user permissions for the graphs?

I am running as admin so the graph should be no problem (I think) checked the permission and admin has unrestriceted access.
filemon reveals nothing, Have already tested with filemon, tested run the website with the administrator account but no luck.
There is no rrd files created in the rra fodler either, when exactly is those files created?

Had some other problem initially when creating the DB i MySQL, script did not run all the way through, switched language setting to utf8 in MySQL and then the script created cacti DB without error.

Give the group Everyone RWX (Windows wise) access to Inetinfo/wwwroot folder. Maybe you can get joy that way. BTB, that is a slam dunk approach. BSOD will opt for more restrictive changes...

This could possibly be the cause of your problems too. You must patch cacti before trying to import the cacti.sql file (if you're using mysql 5.x).

Regardless if you're running cacti under admin, IIS does not run as admin (thank goodness!), so NTFS restrictions still apply. the default user IIS uses is IUSR_COMPNAME and IIS_WPG (if Win2K3). Giving everyone RWX isn't exactly the most secure, especially if the website is public. Helpful for troubleshooting permissions.... but those should've been revealed with FileMon.

Yes I am using MySQL 5.x, did not know that I was suppose to patch cacti before importing cacti.sql.
I have changed to IIS to run with another account just to see if I it would work when running with an admin account that have all the NTFS permissions.

I am about to try the complete windows installation package and see how it works out

I think I have the same problem too. Can someone help me? I checked on the permissions all are allowed.
I also noticed that in graph filters I can't find all the host I created.
