0.6.8a: how to change date format?

I have been using v0.6.8a for about 6 months now and it does everything I need. However, I really wish it could create the graphs with the actual date on the x-axis instead of the day--just like MRTG. Is there any way to do this for the 'weekly', 'monthly', and 'yearly' graphs? Can the new version of Cacti do this? Or even 'rrdtool graph' command?

I really appreciate any help.
