cacti on Mac OSX 10.4 Server?

Post by walsof »

I want to install cacti on Mac OSX Server 10.4. (on Linux/Debian I have a working installation) can someone help or have hints? The threads I found here are outdatet (I think ;-))

You are going to have to be more specific. What exactly do you need help with? I assume you've installed cacti and setup your apache server as you would have for your linux machine. What's not working?

Pretty much, if you get Php, Net-snmp and Apache working Cacti should work.

Give it a try and let us know what success or problems you have.

My OS X 10.4 machine has all three installed by default. It's really just a matter of getting cacti installed.

Cacti from Scratch

I have an article on my blog about this, and I plan on posting a followup for more OS X-specific configuration (CPU temp, etc).

http://machx.org/2006/06/29/cacti-on-os-x-part-1/

This should guide you through building apache2/mysql/php, and rrdtool and its dependencies.

OK, thank you for your help and tipps, now i have cacti up and running on my osx 10.4.7 Server. First Problem was that cron dont work on OSX (replaced by launchd) so I installed a little Programm called Lingon. This helps me to configure a job for poller.php and it works. Benrossi your article helps me very much - thanks again.

I don't run cacti on my Macs, but I use darwinports for that type of thing. I ran a search and cacti is listed in the darwinports repository.
Deja:~ pgerst$ port search cacti
cacti net/cacti @0.8.6h Cacti is a complete RRDtool network graphing solution.

Yeah I've installed cacti using the darwinports release. It works flawlessly!
