SNMP Options Configuration

Ok go easy on me. I just recently installed cacti using the apt-get installer and it pretty much did everything for me.

Now that I have it up and running, it was setup with a localhost device and created the following graphs by default.

Graph Template Name 	Status
1) Linux - Memory Usage 	Is Being Graphed (Edit) 	Delete Graph Template Association
2) Unix - Load Average 	Is Being Graphed (Edit) 	Delete Graph Template Association
3) Unix - Logged in Users 	Is Being Graphed (Edit) 	Delete Graph Template Association
4) Unix - Processes 	Is Being Graphed (Edit) 	Delete Graph Template Association

Those graphs work great, but how do I go about adding a graph to monitor my network traffic?

I tried adding a few graphs using the templates but I couldn't get any of those to work. I'm assuming this has to do with the SNMP options so I would like to know what should I put under SNMP Options. Currently all the fields are left blank? Can someone help me with this or at least refer me to some documentation for beginners on creating graphs to monitor bandwidth throughput.
I searched the forums, browsed the sites documentation, and looked at the manual and I couldn't find the info I was looking for.

You need to run a verbose query for the interfaces data query and post the output. It is likely a snmp.conf issue though.

hm...i think i got it working now.

It was saying to configure this /etc/snmp/snmpd.local.conf


So cd'd into that directory and i noticed that file didn't exist but there was a snmpd.local file there. I simply did cp snmpd.local snmpd.local.conf and then it started to work.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for the help...I did try install mr tg..and i couldn't get that one to work either...haha...they make these network monitoring utlities so tricky to install. The documentation sucks on top of that.

Sounds like a distribution issue. You should open a bug report with the CentOS guys. Typically, it is labeled "snmp.conf" or "snmpd.conf". I forget which.

What version of net-snmp are you running. This may be new, but CentOS is typically behind a bit. In CentOS 4.3, that is not the "default" name of the file.
