[INFOREQ] Adding New OID's for end device tracking

Post by pincher »

Hello Cacti COMMUNITY! Hello Mr. TheWitness!
I'm glad to see you live and healthy.
At nearest time i'm start looking for system for tracking end device on the intelegent switch and find the cacti, but haven't expirence for working with it.
If you can, please give me roadmap for make this system compatable with Nortel BayStack 350, 450, 470.
For example end tracing device solved by the handmade script fo arpwatch utility, and mac-tracking tools built-in to CLI of switch.
What kind of information need for this?
Best regards

Mactrack

Post by williem »

Hey,

mactrack works fin with the backstack 450/470 switches. All you have to do is add an entry into "device types". The easiest way is to do this:
1) add the device into device tracking/devices
2) after adding the device, go back into it to find out what it's "system type is" (ie BayStack 450-24T )
3) Use this to populate the "device types" System Match field.
4) use the same OID as the 450
5) set the scanning function to "get_norbay_switch_ports"
6) save

Regards,

Willie

That looks really good but I am not sure if I am getting all the right info out of my switches. I have a 470 stack of 3 48 port switches and it says I only have 15 active user Mac addresses even though the forwarding databases shows many more.

It seems to me that when working with a user on the BayStack's, I ran into this problem. Bay changed the way they tracked macs from version to version. It has been a while since I accessed one though. Willie has much more experience with them.

I had the same problem and the solution for me was to give the user I was logging in with rights to the mactrack stuff.
