Data Query - No SNMP data returned

Post by scylla »

Hello,

I am having difficulty getting some SNMP scripts to run correctly. I'm seeing the following when I run a verbose query:

+ Running data query [14].
+ Found type = '3' [snmp query].
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'
+ XML file parsed ok.
+ Executing SNMP walk for list of indexes @ '.1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.1.13.1.5'
+ No SNMP data returned
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'

However when I walk the OID on the same host at the CLI, results are returned fine:

cacti:~# snmpwalk -v2c -c community 192.168.8.8 .1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.1.13.1.5

Can anyone suggest what might be happening here? It seems to happen with some scripts and not others; although I can't figure out anything particularly different about them.

Any pointers much appreciated.

Cheers,

From the snmpwalk that you've given us, it looks like whatever data you are trying to query is not in the form of an indexed snmp table and not really suited to a SNMP Indexed Query.

You might consider attaching a copy of the XML file (juniper_fru.xml) that defines your SNMP query so that we can better see what you are trying to accomplish.

I believe it is... XML is as follows:

The SNMP query xml that you have here is referencing more than just the .1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.1.13.1.5 OID that you posted the above output for. You might post a walk of the full snmp table that this SNMP Indexed Query is using.

But, looking at the XML, is the jnxFruIndex field needed? Your jnxOperatingDescr field supplies the correct input for the query to oid_index_parse as well as an item description.

Full walk of the entire table is below. I've removed the jnxFruIndex field and changed the oid_index to .1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.1.13.1.1 - now I see the following verbose output:

+ Running data query [14].
+ Found type = '3' [snmp query].
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'
+ XML file parsed ok.
+ Executing SNMP walk for list of indexes @ '.1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.1.13.1.1'
+ Located input field 'jnxOperatingDescr' [walk]
+ Executing SNMP walk for data @ '.1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.1.13.1.5'
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'

Which looks slightly better (seems that the input fields are being walked now), but still no output. Help? :)

Cheers

Well, your query output does look better this time. But why did you change your oid_index to .1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.1.13.1.1? The one you were using before worked just fine; I think you just needed to remove the empty jnxFruIndex field.

What does your snmp query look like now that you changed it?

If I change the oid_index back to .1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.1.13.1.5, this is what I see again:

+ Running data query [14].
+ Found type = '3' [snmp query].
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'
+ XML file parsed ok.
+ Executing SNMP walk for list of indexes @ '.1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.1.13.1.5'
+ No SNMP data returned
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/juniper_fru.xml'

This is after removing the jnxFruIndex field. I'm a bit stumped, I can't see why nothing is being returned... :-|

cheers

And when you removed the jnxFruIndex field definition, you also removed jnxFruIndex from the index_order field?

Yup. Same deal, no data returned.
