Ping method selection

Post by stealth702 »

It would be nice to have Cacti figure out how to poll a host based upon not only the selection in the settings, but also by if the host has the SMTP information filled in.

Example.. my PIX won't respond to UDP pings.. it will repsond to ICMP pings and of course, SNMP checks. The problem is, when selected to use UDP/SNMP if cacti can't reach the host via UDP it doesn't try SNMP (I learned this the hard way today.. 4 hours troubleshooting why I could ping a host, snmpwalk the host, but Cacti couldn't see the host).

It would also maybe be nice to choose on a host by host basis the method cacti would use.
NOTE: I read that this might be included in a future version.. that would really be nice.

I recall this type of feature (aka diff uptime methods per device) will be in cacti 0.9.

That is correct. This functionality is planned for 0.9.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?
