CactiEZ CD v0.1

Post by cigamit »

Today I present to you the official release of CactiEZ (aka Cacti Made Easy).

CactiEZ is a Linux distro based on CentOS 4.3 that auto installs CentOS, Cacti (with plugins), Cactid, SNMP, RRDTool, Ntop, Netflow, Webmin, and a whole slew of other useful items (see the Documentation for the complete list).

All that is required is to insert the CD before booting, press ENTER when prompted and sit back and wait for the magic. A few minutes later, it will ask you to reboot, and when it does, you have a fully functional and configured Cacti Server. (Be warned, since it wipes your server first!)

The CD weighs in at 355 MB in size, and currently contains only 305 packages. It has a preconfigured firewall, which will only allow the services we require.

Some DocumentationDownload LocationI would like to thank everyone that has tested and worked with the recent Beta releases, without you all, this CD would never have made it to where it is today.

Anychance on installation on other OS?

Post by krap_rz »

Dear Cigamit,

nice to see that it has been made under CentOS. Is there any chances dev. could come up with windows and other Linux OS installation CDs? I have been reading throughout the installation process underr RedHat, Fedora and Windows but i guess its not for begginers.

PHPMyAdmin is really simple to install. Just drop the phpmyadmin directory into your /var/www/html/ folder, and it should work with the default settings.

I have actually thought of making a Plugin with it, so that it just uses Cact's DB info, and Cacti's authenication. Not really that difficult, just a few lines of code to get it working.

CBWFQ not working

Post by jmoore11 »

First off, let me say thanks a ton to cigamit for making this CD. It's really cool.

On my old Cacti box I was using some templates and scripts to graph usage of queues on Cisco routers. The templates and scripts can be found here: http://forums.cacti.net/about7401.html.

For some reason when I try to use these on the CactiMadeEZ version, it doesn't work. I get this in the log:

06/15/2006 10:10:03 AM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[11] DS[84] WARNING: Result from SCRIPT not valid. Partial Result: ...
06/15/2006 10:10:03 AM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[11] ERROR: Empty result [10.93.2.254]: 'perl /var/www/html/scripts/cbwfq.pl x.x.x.x public get bytes 7234113'

But if I run that script manually it produces what is expected.

Data source debug mode produces:

/usr/bin/rrdtool create \
/var/www/html/rra/hostname_bytes_83.rrd \
--step 300 \
DS:bytes:COUNTER:600:0:U \
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:1:600 \
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:6:700 \
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:24:775 \
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:288:797 \
RRA:MIN:0.5:1:600 \
RRA:MIN:0.5:6:700 \
RRA:MIN:0.5:24:775 \
RRA:MIN:0.5:288:797 \
RRA:MAX:0.5:1:600 \
RRA:MAX:0.5:6:700 \
RRA:MAX:0.5:24:775 \
RRA:MAX:0.5:288:797 \
RRA:LAST:0.5:1:600 \
RRA:LAST:0.5:6:700 \
RRA:LAST:0.5:24:775 \
RRA:LAST:0.5:288:797 \

The graph is produced, but has no data.

If anyone has any ideas, I would certainly appreciate them.

Did you check permissions on that script when you copied it to the ./scripts folder?

Oops, missed the fact that you're running cactid. So you will have to provide /full/path/to/perl instead of just plain "perl"

display manager

Post by chensandiego »

Hi! Everyone
I have a question about the display
because for some reason after I install the cd, I cannot go to the graphic display. I try to find the Gnome, KDE, or Xdm in the system but no luck
can anyone give me a hint about this
thank you

I don't think that there is a local GUI. You need to administer it through Webmin. See this link - CactiEZInfo. You open Webmin by using your browser on another computer and pointing it towards https://serverip:10000

I just installed it myself to test it against my Windows version of Cacti and so far I like it. The only problem that I have had so far is that I cannot get Weathermap to create my map image (but I am working on it). Got it! It was a permissions issue. My map is up and running.
