Forecasting plugin?

Post by AndyStewart »

Has anyone come across one, or is working on one, or planning to do one?

I've got cacti running perfectly in my workplace, monitoring loads of devices, but some bright spark wants a forecasting tool for server loads etc, and is (sort of) threatening to get HP Openview and Performance Insight.

Mega bucks for that but the *cough* person won't go away....so looking for a solution....any takers?
I don't care if the glass is half full or half empty, i want to know, who's been drinking my pint!!!

Yep. It is of course possible to play around with that even now. But this would require some manual rrdtool tweaking. Personally, I'd assume, that it may NOT be possible to upgrade from "non-Holt-Winters" to "Holt-Winters" by cacti means. This IS of course possible by manual tweaking (just as it is now when changing other rra parameters).

Is there any status update of the HW implementation in cacti?

Yours,

As I'm not one of the devs, my answer is: no, not sure. But at the time of writing it is already possible to fiddle around with HW prediction (requires some rrdtool tune to set up the new rra's).
Personally, I suppose it would take more time to do the correct parametrization (unless you're familiar with HW theory; I'm not, personally). So it may be worth the work to take a single rrd file of your interest and try to add those HW rra's. If you need help on this task, please open a new thread and I may have a look at it

Check this thread http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=25930

It would be nice to have all heads on the same thread for those interested in Holt-Winters.
