Basic RRA Configuration Reference Available?

Post by hsukirman »

Hi all,

I am running Cacti 0.8.6h on a Debian box that at the same time runs Nagios. Is there any basic reference available for the configuration of the RRAs?

What I mean is I would like to understand how the different items under
Console | Management | Data Sources | RRAs | ...
interact with each other.

Does anyone know a link to a reference like that ... or could someone post a little basic information? I found tools on the forum but would rather prefer an explanation before using any tools.

thanks a lot ... there is a lot to read. (and it is quite difficult to understand I have to admit)

One thing that I saw (please correct me if I am wrong) I have to use the rrdtool to change existing RRAs? So it is no good idea to change the RRA settings from the cacti UI?

(I don't want to change big things ... maybe just extend the amount of data available in 5 minute steps, or change the consolidation options etc)

No problem doing so. But changes will apply th new graphs only. For existing ones, you have to use rrdtool tune
