question regarding max values

Hello - I'm having some issues lately with data going off the deep end. Essentially if there is a huge time drift on the server, it causes data spikes in the rrds. To my understanding, rrd will ignore the data if it exceeds the limit specified in the config for the host. The question is this - when specifying a max rate in a data source config, is it bits or bytes? I'm inclined to think the latter.

the data source MAXIMUM is always related to the basic data retrieved. For traffic, this is ifIn/OutOctets, so bytes apply here

yeah, i finally figured that part out. what bothers me is that by default cacti places incorrect values in the max fields when it creates a new rrd. i'd like to find a work around for that so it doesn't continue to be a problem.

This is already well known. cacti takes the ifSpeed, which is definitively wrong. I'm waiting for the new cacti 0.9 code. Perhaps there will be a fix, then. I don't suppose there will be any for current cacti. This would require some maths for SNMP Data Queries. For Script Data Queries, the maths would be supplied by the Script code ...
