Why "current traffic" differs between 5min graph

Post by joe_hznm »

Hi,

I don't understand some data on cacti's data.

I noticed that "current traffic" on 5min average graph is different from that of 30min traffic. Why? how does cacti process data collected?

RRDTool consolidates data. If you want a higher resultion for graphs, then you need to increase the number of rows that are stored.

The current value is the current average, so it is not a snap shot of that instance but of the last 5 minutes and 30 minutes. So the 5 minute "current" is more sensitive to sudden changed.

Exmaple
let say these are the value for the last 30 mintes at 1 minute intervals.

10 9 8 7 10 5 4 10 9 8 4 5 9 6 7 8 9 10 7 6 7 8 5 3 3 4 5 2 3

The 30 minutes average is 191/30 = 6.3
The 5 minute average only sees the last 5 for an average of 15/5 = 3
