question regarding ping graphing

this is more of a "who" to ping than a "how" to set up ping graphs.
I have been pinging cisco.com and a few other well known places for some time now without any negative repercussions, etc. I would much rather use a host that is set up for public icmp testing purposes if at all possible; does anyone know if there are any available?.

Also, has anyone done something similar to smokeping in Cacti?
