Post by techwebb »

I'm not sure if you can help this problem. I installed and anm running cygwin for XP. I download Net-SNMP and try to run ./configure but I get the error "unknmown command or directory" is this a problem with cygwin?

Why are you trying to complile net-snmp? The windows binary works just fine.

I was under the impression that this was the way to build cacti under a windows environment to run on a windows box by using cygwin.

A few questions re net-snmp (my config at end of this):

1. Is there an easy way to install net-snmp on windows? Do I really have to follow this:http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/docs/README.win32.html?

2. From BSOD2600`s very helpful win install guide it seems that net-snmp is optional.
Is my understanding correct that this is the case for the start? The moment you want to speed Cacti up or do some interesting stuff one will need net-snmp?

Cacti is working fine for me on:
Windows 2000 server SP4
MySQL 5.0.20a
RRD 1.2.9
Cacti 0.8.6h

1) yes, download the binary: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/net- ... e?download

2) Net-SNMP is sort of optional, depending on a few things. If you're using SNMPv3, then it's needed. If you've got anything less than PHP 5.1 installed and are using snmpv2, then net-snmp snmpbulkwalk is used, otherwise the PHP 5.1 implementation is used. The Net-SNMP SNMP Agent is NOT required to be installed. The Microsoft SNMP agent is fine.
