A question I have....

Is the plugin architecture from Jimmy at cactiusers.org "technically" supported/sanctioned ?

I can see a conflict of coding, if for example I have a base Cacti installed, then add-in the plugin scripts, and then want to apply future base-level fixes etc.

I like the functionality that the architecture provides, but I'm concerned about deploying it out to my "live" sites until I know the future (soon as I figure out how to do that I'll let you know..:) )

Jimmy/cigamit recently joined the devs team, merely to develop the plugin arch as a basic feature of upcoming cacti 0.9, see http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=11360. But it was annonced, that the current plugin arch will receive some changes. As Jimmy is already supporting most of the plugins, I assume to find them upgraded as soon as cacti 0.9 becomes available.

Once 0.9.0 is released, Jimmy and myself will be working with Plugin developers to make their plugins work with 0.9.0.

There will be extensible changes to the Plugin Arch, as it is being written from the ground up in 0.9.0. Give you an idea, I'm not looking that plugin code from cactiusers.org until after I have completed the base system, as I might want to add features it has.

Currently, I'm trying to finish the new authenication system, that will allow better security controls in Cacti as well as Plugins. Jimmy is working on a general event manager for Cacti that will support notification and event processing for Plugins.

Any more questions, please let me know.

You guys are doing excellent work - and the only request I would make as you guys work on 9.0 is that you convert the weathermap and mactrack plugins first!

I will say this, there is a short list of plugins I want ready at release, both Mac Track and Network Map are on that list. Also, Thold and Monitor are as well.

Woo! on a shortlist :D

Seriously though, as soon as there's something to work with, I'll get going on the changes for Weathermap. Last time I tried the 0.9.0 svn, it required some gettext stuff that I didn't have, unfortunately.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)
