SNMP Timeout after increasing timout value

Hello, we're running cacti 0.8.6h and cactid 0.8.6g on Fedora Core 5.

We were having some trouble monitoring a 7206 router... it turns out that it's SNMP response was so slow that it was timing out and making the graphs choppy. I increase the amount of memory allocated to PHP to 128m and increase the Cacti SNMP timeout value to 1500ms, which fixed the problem.

However, since doing that, an HP 2524 switch we were monitoring now get's a timeout error when polled... below is the debug output from the poller:

I've tried increasing and decreasing the SNMP timeout for the individual device, but I just haven't had any success at all with that.

Hmm, I'm not quite sure, whether changing the timeouts will automatically change the poller cache (storing the commands to be executed by the poller). But you may try to

php rebuild_poller_cache.php
after changing the timeouts.

Rebuild the poller cache.

Sometimes things don't get rebuilt or corrupted on larger devices, because there was not enough memory or execution time to process all the interfaces.

Ok, I rebuilt the poller cache, but I still receive the same exact results.

As you're running cactid, you may manually execute it for only that failing host to get more debug info. So please run

The first output shows *nothing* for HOST[6], the one you posted in the very first post. Did you delete this host? The second oiutput shows the same things we already know about, the timeouts (apart from the fact that you decreased the timeout from 500 to 300 ms).

HOST[13] is the same host as HOST[6]... another admin on the box deleted the device and re-created it. This, of course, did not solve the problem.

The server it's running on is a Dell PowerEdge 850 with a 3 GHz Pentium D Processor, 1 GB of Memory and 2 80 Gb Hard Drives (SCSI).

Well, I addionally need the output from the snmpwalk itself against OID .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10 and .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16

Similar issue perhaps? Just about all of my snmp commands like snmpwalk seem to time out if ran manually (though they appear to work fine running through cacti). I am now looking at the TCP connects script but have ran into the problem again with the snmpnetstat command:

update mysql table directly

I literally had the same problem today, namely that increasing the "timeout" value in the Cacti settings interface didn't appear to do anything. I ran the rebuild_poller_cache.php, cleared the poller cache, and so forth; no matter what, cactid was stuck on using the 500ms default timeout.

So i simply changed the timeout value directly in mysql:

mysql> use cacti;
mysql> update host set snmp_timeout="5000" where hostname="1.2.3.4"

Works like a charm now! :)
