Since it came up again, I'd like to add my vote for this too :-)
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

OWL Document Repo integration

Post by shanali »

hi,

how about integrating owl (http://owl.sourceforge.net/) as a plugin so it would appear as a OWL tab of its own... and then tie the document with an owl icon next to graphs (just alongside zoom, config etc)

2cent worth :-)

thomaslam,

I will post a patch possible this weekend depending on what my wife convinces me to do. I am getting a few fixes for Cactid done this weekend and this is not a big deal (believe it or not).

thanks, it will be great.

no sure if there's anyway we can put in additional comments/remark on a graph...possible creating a byte of 2 size of space just for this?

Did that patch ever materialise?

I'm looking again now at the possibility of embedding external stuff (weathermaps, arbitrary HTML, or links to something else) in a graph tree, and I don't see anything in the 0.8.6j code to support it. As far as I can see, I'd need to add an item_type field to graph_tree_items, and then modify all the places where the implicit type is figured out... is that correct? It's a few changes, but all in 3 files...

I'm thinking that making the type explicit would then make it easier for the next guy to come along and add type #5 (0,1,2 as now, 3=map, 4=chunk-of-HTML) when they think of something useful. If other plugins had more of a concept of 'owner' for devices or graphs, you could present a slice of Monitor or Threshold to a customer, for instance.

Howie,

I am tapped out right now. It's insane. You would like my new plugin. My month of June is not looking good either. We'll see. Been out of town two weeks and have three more to go.

I guess what I really meant is, is it a case of packaging it up, or is it not done at all? I don't mind having a go at it myself, it just seemed a waste of energy if it's already 'nearly ready'.

I do happen to have a "documents" plugin that allows you to create documents using a simple HTML editor from within Cacti, just haven't thought to try and make it link from the tree...

I've had it in SVN for a while, I will see about putting it up for download this weekend.

Once I get weathermap 0.92 out of the way (hopefully today) then I'll take a look at a generic objects-in-the-tree modification. I'd like to do it in such a way that other plugins can be providers of objects, by having some hooks in it too. Obviously, my main interest is adding maps, but if it's done right, I hope it could be done only once :-)
