Result from SNMP not valid. Partial Result: ...

Post by robinbowes »

Hi,

(using cacti 0.8.6h installed from RPM on FC4)

I'm not seeing Interface statistic graphs for either of my two linux servers.

The debug logout put looks like this:

Code: Select all

04/11/2006 09:20:03 PM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[7] ERROR: Problems parsing Multi SNMP OID! (oid: )
04/11/2006 09:20:03 PM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[7] DS[57] WARNING: Result from SNMP not valid. Partial Result: ...

and

Code: Select all

04/11/2006 09:20:03 PM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[8] ERROR: Problems parsing Multi SNMP OID! (oid: )
04/11/2006 09:20:03 PM - CACTID: Poller[0] Host[8] DS[69] WARNING: Result from SNMP not valid. Partial Result: ...

I see another error for my Cisco router, but I do get graphs for that:

Code: Select all

Any idea where I should start looking for problems?

Thanks,

Looks like your indexes for the interfaces has changed. Either you can manually reindex the affected routers (click the green circle next to the snmp interface query in the device) or look into running the poller_reindex_hosts.php nightly.

Hmmm. I didn't have an snmp interface query, so I added one:

SNMP - Interface statistics

When I run the verbose query, this is what I see:

+ Running data query [1].
+ Found type = '3' [snmp query].
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/interface.xml'
+ XML file parsed ok.
+ Executing SNMP walk for list of indexes @ '.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.1'
+ No SNMP data returned
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/interface.xml'
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/interface.xml'
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/resource/snmp_queries/interface.xml'

So, it's not returning any data. Hmmm. better check that out.

You didn't already have a 'SNMP - Interface statistics' for that device? What was cacti using already to poll those interfaces?

I just had a graph template - SNMP Generic OID Template.

It was all working fine - then broke after an upgrade. I left it for a while and decided to have a look at it again recently.

Any ideas why the SNMP query is failing?

Ewww, you were manually entering in the OIDs to be polled for traffic?

SNMPWALK .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1 on a cisco router and see what it returns. If the Index count isnt on .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.1', then you'll need to copy the existing interface.xml script and associated templates. Then modify interface.xml so it uses the correct OIDs (probably .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.x).

Heh, I didn't do anything manually.

To be honest, I don't remember exactly what I did - but it used to work!

When it stopped working, I removed all the hosts and added them again. Maybe I got something wrong?

I'll try doing it again and see if I made some simple mistake.

I actually support cacti for a client (an ISP) and have loads of hosts working fine on their instance. It's just not working for me at home!

Hmmm, it seems that my snmpd configuration had disappeared on both linux boxes. Bizarre.

All working now.

Well, actually, I have another issue, but I'll raise that in another thread.

Thanks,

I have the same issue what did you mean by "my snmpd configuration had disappeared on both linux boxes"? What did you do to repair this issue?
