Problems polling CPU util

Post by rusty »

I have been through a few of the how to's and been using cacti for a few weeks now. I am currently trying to troubleshoot a problem with one host not displaying data for CPU util. the graph shows up but there is no data and the values are all 0. If I snmpget the ssCPURaw there are numbers in the counters, they are not 0.

I eventually exported the ucd/net CPU Usage graph template and I noticed a problem. there is a section for the CPU Usage User and CPU Usage Nice bu there is no section for System. There is also an error "Invalid data template" in the section where I would expect to find the CPU Usage System section.

I am not knowledgeable in xml but this doesn't look right to me.

Code: Select all

Please switch Settings->Logging Level to DEBUg for ONE polling cycle and find the OID in log/cacti.log. Please post the snippet pertaining to the failing host

I have made a few changes since my last post. I deleted the data source for the ucd/net CPU Usage for hte host in question and then I readded it.

When I create the CPU Usage graph I get the following errors

Code: Select all

Notice: Undefined index: 258 in /usr/share/cacti/site/lib/template.php on line 732

Notice: Undefined index: 258 in /usr/share/cacti/site/lib/template.php on line 732

Notice: Undefined index: 258 in /usr/share/cacti/site/lib/template.php on line 732

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /usr/share/cacti/site/lib/template.php:732) in /usr/share/cacti/site/graphs_new.php on line 322
I am working on capturing the debug and will post soon.

When I look at the data templates the ucd/net CPU Usage - Nice and User are listed but the System is not. I selected the User data template and chose Duplicate. I changed the name to - System and the internal data source name to cpu_system. I also change the OID to .52 to poll the system variable. I saved and now the new template is not displayed.

Forgot to mention.

I am running out of time to get this resolved. The server in question went into production last week and I desparately need to start tracking CPU usage.

Consequently, we are looking to hire someone for a fw hours of consulting work to get this resolved if anyone is interested.

collecting some more data...

Here's the result from a debug mode for the CPU Usage graph template;

Code: Select all

RRDTool Command:

RRDTool Says:

I am not sure how best to fix the problem though. When I try to add a new data source is does not show up in the list of data sources (see this link http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=11621

When I go to the Graph Template for CPU Usage the System CPU Data Source is listed as NONE. The pull down menu does not show a CPU Usage - System as a choice.

But, when I try to create a new Data Template for CPU Usage - System and go to the pull down menu for Selected Data Template, there are 4 ucd/net - CPU Usage - System entries to chose from.

How can there be 4 separate entries with the same name?

How can I delete the 3 that do not belong? and how do I know which ones to delete?

Goto Graph Management and find your Graph. Add your newly defined data source to the Supplemental Graph Template Data, assuming, that this data source gets valid data from your target

Can't find the where to add the Supplemental Graph Template Data. Where do I go to add that.

Ok I figured out what you were referring to regarding the Supplemental Graph Data template. The problem is that the newly defined data source is not shown in the pull down menu

Can anyone take a look at this thread and see if they know why the new data templates are not available inthe Supplemental Graph Data template pul down or why there is an error in the xml export for the CPU Usage - System.

I really need to get this resolved.

And I regularly get this error when trying to create a new CPU Usage graph

The problem still seems to be that the System CPU Data Source is gone and when I create a new one it doesn't show up on the pull down menu under Supplemental Graph Template Data.

Has any one else experienced this problem? what did you do to fix it?

Thanks

321 views and nobody knows how to fix this problem?

No developers out there willing to take a look at this and see if they can figure out what is wrong here?

Seems like I have posted more than enough info for someone to at least have some ideas.
