file permissions and invalid return data

Post by at0micr0m »

Hi Folks
I wrote a perl script to query an icecast streaming server and get back the number of connections and the bandwidth used by each radio station and I almost have cacti displaying it but I am stumped.

I am using the latest version on REHL3. The error I get in the error log is:

04/01/2006 09:50:22 AM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] Host[19] DS[255] WARNING: Result from CMD not valid. Partial Result: 5 120

(as you can see, the result is there and it looks correct - 5 users at 120 K)

-When I view the poller cache, everything looks right: (4 is the input)

Data Source: wcpe-mp3
RRD: /var/www/cacti/rra/zoot_internal_time_256.rrd
Action: 1, Script: perl /var/www/cacti/scripts/stream.pl 4

-When I look at the graph management screen RDD is saying everything is OK
- When I look in the rra directory, the rdd file is created, but owned by root, not the cactiuser.
- If I delete the rdd file, it gets recreated and it is still owned by root but never written to again.
- If i change the username and group it still never gets written to.
- The crontab entry is set up as specificed in the UNIX install pages.

I'm stumped! I will be happy to share this template if i can get the @#$% thing working.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I suppose that there's an error with script output formatting. Please see http://www.cacti.net/downloads/docs/htm ... cacti.html for instructions

Thank you sir, that was the problem. It's fairly specific but do you think anyone else can use a plugin to cacti to monitor icecast?

I'm not sure, but there may be some solution to this at Scripts and Templates, but not as a plugin.
AFAIK, your approach should be solved by some Script and the exported Graph Template. I'm pretty sure, your work will be appreciated when posted to Scripts and Templates
