problem showing custom graph

Post by beltran »

Hello, I had problems with large spikes on my graphs, sometimes almost 120MB or sometimes with values a little bit higher than the real bandwith.

by the way, i have cacti 0.86g an cactid 0.8.6f

So I found this post:

http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t ... ight=peaks

in this post were two answers:

1-. use removespikes
and
2-. define a max value at the data source level in the data template

I followed the solution number two.

For the same modem zyxel Prestige 791R, that has a 768kbps of bandwidth; I have created two graphs:

The first one with the custom graph template wiht Maximum Value [traffic_in] and Maximum Value [traffic_out] of 96000 (768kbps)
and
the second one with the cacti's graph template default Maximum Value [traffic_in] and Maximum Value [traffic_out] of 100000000

Look at the graphs the first one has two gaps

Look at the values in both graphs, if you can see the second one graph dont have any gap but the values of the maximun value are higher than 768Kbps :-?

Is this a problem of rrdtool(rrdtool-1.2.6)?
or php(php-4.4.0)?
or mysql(mysql-4.1.14)?
or I miss some configuration?

any suggestions?
I will appreciate
thanks in advance

What about Errors/Discards on the same interfaces for the same time. You could have had a UDP storm that caused some discards and therefore causing the slight overage.

thank you Witness :)

Got it !! I just create a graph of Errors/discards for the same interface and i will coment about the results

by the way

does exists a way that i can fill the gaps wiht the maximum value?
does exists any configration or setup?

Like mtrg does, because i have the same interface with mrtg and the graph doesn´t show any gaps

Like the next figure (look at the circles)

I hope i will

TIA and Regards

ok this is the results of the graph of error/discards

in fact, the problem are the error, look at the figure, in the same time that errors appears, the gaps appears too

i like cacti, nowadays i have migrate from mrtg, but in mrtg the same device dont show gaps

does exists some way to fill the gaps like mrtg do?

regards

or lan traffic?

This relates to the HEARTBEAT value of the data source. It defines the time, that rrdtool will accept without getting new data. rrdtool will fill this gap with interpolated data. Personally, I don't like making tools fill gaps if there REALLY ARE gaps.

To know exactly, you'll have to review the RFC defining the interface MIB.

May be or may not. Difficult to debug from remote ...
