Update to Cacti Website

Post by rony »

There has been a minor update to the website to include a section on bug reporting and our development road map.

Check it out at www.cacti.net

Any questions, let me know.

Tony, is there any idea of timescale? even in months/quarters?

I've been using Cacti for a year or more now on 0.8.6x, so I guess stuff has been in the works for a while, but I also get the impression that some of that stuff (plugins, for example) isn't very far advanced yet.

I don't intend to nag, I'm just curious to see how much effort to put into a 0.8.6x-style plugin, or whether I'm better off going with the 'minimal' version I have now, and waiting for 0.9 to do the work.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

Time frames are subject to resource availability.

Ok, now that I said the legal mumbo jumbo... :)

Our goal was to be ready for beta testing early 2nd Quarter. In order to help us faciliate this goal, we have added 2 more people to the Cacti development group. Jimmy (cigamit) will be working very closly with me on the Plugin Arch for 0.9.0 and is currently working on the Event Manager. PJ (Linegod) is working on Documentation and genernal interface coding. Ian (RaX) is currently working on the new Template system after finishing the new look and feel of the UI. Larry (TheWitness) is working on the polling system and cactid, but his time has been dedicated to his MACTrack addon. I'm currently working on the new user auth/management system.

As with any project that is run by volunteers, we all do this in our free time. I will be honest, my time over the last 4 weeks has been limited. I had planed to have the new user auth system done in 0.9.0, but I haven't had the time. I'm back in the saddle, per say, and working on it this weekend.

At this point, I would feel confortable with saying we will be ready for beta testing late 2nd quarter. We have had some issues with feature creep and we have reordered priorities, IE including plugin arch, of 0.9.0 around the turn of the year.

If you would like to be included in the beta testing group, please email me your Forum username, mantis (bugs.cacti.net) username and real name.

More questions, please let me know.

Cool. In that case I'll spend my spare time getting other things in order, and look forward to the new things. I can understand how these kinds of changes affect more than you expect, even before you get to resourcing it all. Best of luck! (and I'll send you those details shortly)
