Handling missing data.

Post by saltman7 »

I thought there was a setting somewhere for graphs so that you could specify what to do when there was missing data; either extend the graph object (line / area) at the current level until data is available or have it drop to zero.

Can someone point me towards this option, I've checked all over and can't seem to locate it.

Thanks!

I'm not aware of this option/feature. Let me know if you find it...

I remember now, it's an MRTG option called: "unknaszero" which would treat unknown data as zero vs. it's default behaviour of repeating the last known value. I guess this didn't make it into RRDTool anywhere.

If you don't find it in the rrdtool manual, then it's not there....

CDEF.

CURRENT_DATA_SOURCE,UN,0,CURRENT_DATA_SOURCE,IF,8,*

That should convert bytes to bits but set the value to 0 if the data in the rrd file is UNKN. (If have not tried the above, it is a modified version of what I use for my own custom graphs... but the principle is the same).

See http://www.vandenbogaerdt.nl/rrdtool/total.php for help on a CDEF
