mrtg ds0 and ds1 values in the legend.

Post by riven1128 »

I have been using MRTG to collect data for a while now, I just recently setup rrdtool and cacti to read the data from mrtg by having mrtg spit out rrd files as well.

I have setup cacti to read these files, and it's graphing correctly.. the problem is this, I want to also display the value of ds0 and ds1 in the legend.

With my other cacti/rrdtool graphs I'm able to specify the data sources in the "text format" field and have the value displayed, say for example in my weather graph I have a data source called temp.. I can enter the text format:

Temp: <temp>f

When it comes to the mrtg rrd files, I would expect that I could do something like

Input: <ds0>

But .. this doesn't work..

I know this post is long winded.. ;) but is there any way I can get this value? or do I have to basically go through and convert this to rrdtool only and eliminate mrtg in order to do what I want?

No ideas?

I could always try to hack the code and MAKE it work .. but I'd rather know if what I'm trying for just isn't going to happen the way the software is currently written :)

How to make mrtg split the data

Post by Steve »

Hi,

How did you make the MRTG split the data from one file into two files; i.e.
server1.rrd to server1out.rrd and server1in.rrd.

Also, can you make Cacti to read single rrd file and displays the graph?
