Hi.
I was searching the Net trying to find an app that could get some statistics from my 2 cisco VPN 3000 concentrators and I ran into Cacti. I've read some docs and found it very interesting but I would like to get some answers before proceeding to Cacti implementation (because I have to ask my boss for some hardware!!).
1. It will be very difficult installing Cacti in a Windows environment? Would you recomend Apache or IIS web server? WinXP or Win2000Pro?
2. I think the use of mySQL will permit the storage of statitical data through time. It is possible to get totals and averages for the year, month, week??
3. Is it possible to have statistics individually (for each CVPN3000) and together (2CVPN summed) in different graphs? It will need 3 templates?
Thanks in advance
Salman

1) If you follow the installation guide in my signature, it should be fairly easy. As for webserver, it's up to you. I use IIS, but others use Apache just fine. A server OS is recommended, but either XP Pro or Win2K Pro would work. I would suggest the former if you must go with either.
2) The actual data which is collected is stored in the rrd files (manipulated by rrdtool). MySQL mearly holds the configuration and templates for cacti. Read this guide on how to increase the history/granularity of the graphs.
3) Yes, it's possible. You would actually only need 2 templates, one for the CVPN3000 and another which has the data combined.
