I have followed rax's instructions, but still can't see anything in poller cache. CPU Usage works fine.
I am using a plain RedHat Linux 7.3, with UCD-SNMP. On the same machine cacti 0.6.x works fine.

Any idea what you were missing that my instructions included? If multiple users are encountering this, there is something I need to stress more.

Uhm.. I have upgraded from cacti-0.8-pre20030417.tar.gz to cacti-0.8-pre20030421.tar.gz and now it seems working for me too.
I have tried both with Ian's instruction and also selecting an host template (Cisco Router).

Data Source for script polling as SNMP

Post by n9oah »

I put in a script to pull data. First one works fine, added another and it runs fine when I command line...
=====================================
php cmd.php

MUTLI command: /usr/bin/rsh -l cacti fairplay /home/cacti/loadavg.pl, output: 20.53 18.64 17.25
=====================================

But polling shows it as an snmp, I have pasted the other script output as well....

=====================================
Data Source: Load
RRD: /var/www/html/cacti8/rra/fairplay-load.rra
Action: 1, Script: /usr/bin/rsh -l cacti fairplay /home/cacti/uptime.pl 1

^^^^^^^ good, what it should be...

Data Source: Load Average - RSH
RRD: /var/www/html/cacti8/rra/fairplay-lavg.rrd
Action: 2, OID: (Host: 10.128.16.173, Community: public)

^^^^^ BAD....This action should be a script like Action: 1, I don't get it since the command line is pulling the right data? Just when I thought I was getting the hang of it...

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have scrapped the Data Input, Template, and sources and started all over and with new names but I still get the same thing. Could there be a reference in some table saying that this action "number 2" is an snmp for polling?

(Using cacti-0.8-pre20030421.tar.gz)

thanks,

Bill.

Double check the 'Input Type' for the data input method that you are using. This is what directly controls the action in the poller cache. For your purposes it should be set to 'Script/Command'.

Ian,
I'm not too sure what I'm missing. The ones I tried with before was the release from the 15th. I then dled 18th and same thing. I followed exactly the same instructions you posted and it did not work. I'm going to attempt to do the same on a few more of the old release to see if I did miss something and will post back my results tomorrow. The instructions were pretty clear in the documentation.

Data Source for script polling as SNMP

Post by n9oah »

I double checked the 'Input Type' for the data input method and it is set for Script/Command. I also deleted and re-created that input method under a different name. That is why I am wondering if an entry got mis-updated in the DB. :(

It seems to me when I first tried to create this input method that something happened and it originally set as an SNMP method. I deleted that and recreated it. But ....

I am going to poke around in the DB looking for action #2.

thanks,
bill.

Let me know what you find. I double checked the 'type_id' column in the 'data_input' table and everything appears to be normal.
