Help with Graphing a Gig Interface :(

Post by Don Muraco »

Hello Fellow-Cactites!

First off.. awesome product (my managers think so too!) and easy to use for new users (like me)!

The issue:
I have a border router that I am graphing. The border router has a Gig interface on it. I have the device setup correctly with the correct SNMP strings. When I try to graph the Gig Interface, I adjust the upper limit to 500 (the gig interface will only have 200 MB through it, I guess i could change it to either 200 or even 1000). When I view the graph, my graph goes up to just over 100 MB and does not autoscale any higher. If the traffic goes over the 100 or so MB mark, the graph suddenly drops down to the bottom of the graph and continues graphing as if it was over the 100 MB mark. When the traffic drops below the 100 MB mark, the graph returns to normal.

What I believe is happening is the graph is functioning fine and the data is fine, but the graph sees the 100 MB mark and wants to continue graphing, instead of autoscaling, it just starts at the bottom of the graph. So the traffic maybe 120 MBs, but the graph reports back 20 MB.

Any ideas how to correct this or get it to autoscale to 500 MB?

Thanks in Advance!!!

to get Gig interfaces graphed correctly you need to graph 64-bit counters instead of 32-bit counters. If you graph 32-bit counters the graph will behave exactly as you have described in you post above.

It may be that you have to use SNMP version2 aswell to get the 64-bit counters to work, this depends on the hardware of your routers.

64 Bit Counters!

Post by Don Muraco »

Ahhh.. this would make sense (since I'm getting the rollover)!!! Ok, now I've been searching through cacti looking for 64 bit counters for my interfaces.. don't quite see them though. Any help on locating these?

Thanks for holding my hand!

Got It!

Ahh... I found it under "Console -> Data Sources ->" Then click on the name of the source that you want to edit. At the bottom of the page, change the output type to the 64 bit counters. Just incase anyone else is looking for it.

Thanks again!

So what if we're using the "In/Out Bits with Total Bandwidth" or "In/Out Bits With 95th Percentile"?

Here we go!

Try this Link..

http://forums.cacti.net/about11193.html ... t+counters

Basically, copy the CDEF data from the 64 bit graph template into a new graph template for interfaces... I believe :)
