Trying to Setup for 1min polling + 1 min Graphs.
Ok iv been looking and serching all over these fourms trying to learn how-to Get Cacti to work with 1 min Polling and have the Graphs Show Per Min insted of Showing 5 min Avrage. Here what i did tell me where im wrong or what i forgot.
(Note this is for Winodws 2003)
1. Set The poller task to every 1min.
2. Made a New RRA copied from the 1min Need help here.
3. Copied the "Interface - Traffic" Data Template and Changed Step 60 Hartbeate 120.
4. Copied the "Interface - Traffic (bits/sec)" Graph Template, Also no chages yet need help here aswell.
Can some one help as to what im missing.

I don't believe all of Cacti is ready for 1 minute polling. A dev will have to comment on this.

I'm looking to do the opposite and increase the time between polling. I've had my polling set to 5 minutes since my initial install and am constantly running in to a wall when adding new scripts, usually vb-wmi connections. Right now I'm sitting at over 6 minutes for polling time and I have more to add. As much as it'd be nice to consolidate some of the scripts together to be more efficient, I use a few scripts on many servers and would rather re-use them and just put in arguments to the script rather than hard code anything in to the scripts and have to edit them directly all the time when I add more things to check. The thing is I really don't need them to run every 5 minutes, 10 is fine. What all do I need to do to be able to make Cacti happy with changing the scheduled poller process to 10 minutes? Most of what I'm doing is checking file sizes on our Exchange Databases. While there is plenty of other stuff I'm checking, a 10 minute interval is plenty.
Have you tried increasing the number of pollers to help spread out the load?

For those who are interested in _increasing_ please see my comments at http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?p ... ght=#53604. But I did not check this out by myself

yep, I went up to 80 recently, but doesn't seem to affect outside scripts (non snmp.) I timed it at 6:17 and a run later on, went for 5:58, which is kind of within margin of error being the scripts don't always take the same ammount of time to return their data, and still above 5 mintues anyway.
I've gone to consolidating a bunch that I don't plan to edit in to one hard coded vb script, which will take care of 32 of them and should drop the polling time down dramatically. I'm still entering the output fields for the particular input method. Hopefully there isn't a limit to the number of output fields I can have from a single script (is there?)

1 Minute Polling in 0.8.6h
Is there a definative answer as to whether or not Cacti 0.8.6h can be configured to poll every 60 seconds?BSOD2600 wrote:I don't believe all of Cacti is ready for 1 minute polling. A dev will have to comment on this.
Based on developer input (around 18 months ago or so) configured 0.8.6c to run every 60 seconds (not with a patch but by changing step from 300 to 60, heartbeat from 300 to 120, and changed another value from 1 to 8 (can't recall which one I thought it was on the graph template). Its been working.
Would like to deploy 0.8.6h with the same modifications. Looking for confirmation from a cacti developer as to whether or not this still works.

Those same modifications that where done in 0.8.6c will work with 0.8.6h. There is no changes in 0.8.6h that would change that behavior.
