Setup problem

I installed all the bit and pieces. When I navigate to /index.php it takes me to /install/index.php and prompts me to update the paths to the external tools. After doing that I click Finish and nothing happens (browser just keeps on spinning). There seems to be nothing the the cactli.log file (besides the entries from cmd.php), and I can run "php cmd.php". When I open a new browser, I get to the same setup page. I see that the settings seem to have been saved, so the connection to the DB seems to be working. I tips on how to troubleshoot this?

I interpreted teh PHP 4.X "or higher" requirement a bit too liberal and tried PHP 5. I downgraded to PHP 4.4.2 and now it works.
