Y need to find out how to make cacti that runs on a Gentoo Machine
to grapf all of my users from a network they all run windowsXP sp2.

Well, it is possible to retrieve lots of data from windows systems, but tell us _what_ data you'll need? Traffic in/out of those windows boxes? CPU load? Motherboard Infos (temp, fan) and the like?

First, you'll want to verify, that the windows hosts will respond to snmp requests. To do this, run

snmpwalk -c <your community string for windows box> -v 1 <your windows box IP@ or DNS name> system

. Hopefully, you'll get a response. If not, you'll have to configure the snmp daemon on the windows box.
Next: Goto Devices and Add a new entry for your box. Fill in all requested values and select Windows 2000/XP Host as the Host Template. Save. Create Graphs for this Host and find all interfaces of this box reported at the end of the page. Select those you're interested in. Wait for at least 2 polling cycles (10 Min) and find the graphs.

Search for a post of BSOD2000 (most likely in the Win32 Specific Forum). He's THE windows guy. In his signature, please find a howto for setting up cacti on windows boxes. Hope you'll find a chapter on snmp there...

they are clients that are not intrested in their trafic. Y m.

And canot go to them and say: please install this everythime your shitty windows brakes .

If you don't have access to the boxes SNMP data, then accessing the switches would help. Procedure is nearly the same, but please select the Generic SNMP-enabled Host Template. Surely, you must have SNMP access to the switches (test described as above)

If you can't get traffic data from the switches, then you'll have to get it from the clients themselves.

I think MS has a template to apply SNMP settings to clients via Group Policy. See, for instance, http://www.serverwatch.com/tutorials/ar ... hp/2200561

The biggest question is if it's installed on the clients or not. If it isn't installed, then I'm not really sure what other options you have. Anything I can think of that you could do* involves installing something on the client - either the SNMP service or the Nagios client.

AFAIK there are only these two options:
- retrieving from network equipment: you told us, that there is no SNMP available for your network equipment. So this option fails.
- retrieving from clients: you told us, that it is not possible for you to activate SNMP on those clients. So this option fails, too.
But, wait, in the Scripts and Templates forum there's lot of rumour about something like WMI. I don't no nothing about this stuff. But perhaps this can help?
At least, you'll stick to measuring the traffic at the server. But you will only have values for the whole server, not per client.
