No .rrd in <cacti>/rrs folder and No Graphics.

Post by dust2k »

I know it's sounds silly to create a new post when there are many "No Graphics" threads have already been discussed, but I still can't figure out after I read all of them, Here is the detail of my problem.

Environment :
----------------------------------
OS : Windows 2000 server SP4
Web server : IIS 5
PHP : version 4.4
Perl : ActivePerl 5.8.6
RRD : rrdtool-cygwin-1.2.11
Cacti : cacti-0.8.6g
Cacti-cactid : cacti-cactid-0.8.6f-1
NET-SNMP : 5.2.x
Mysql : 4.1.14 for windows

Installed and Tested
----------------------------------
1.Windows + IIS + PHP4 + MySQL are all working fine.
2.Cacti installed properly and detected my Billion 7402 VGO ADSL/Modem router with SNMP V2
3.Device's SNMP works fine and can use MRTG view the graphics.

the permission of read/execuate for rrdtool.exe/php.exe/perl.exe and extra write permission for <cacti>/ has grant to IUSER_XXXX and local administrator (run schedale task).

I tried use cmd to run php poller.php and only one line text said :
<br><strong>This script is only meant to run at the command line.</strong>.

I prefer to use Cactid to do the data collection, so I config Cactid to do the work, Here is the log, but after I run cactid, and no graphic at all, only red cross square there. and there is no file in rra folder at all, I don't know what's the problem. can anyone help ?

1) Q: When attempting to run poller.php you get, "This script is only meant to run at the command line"
A: Most likely caused by a misconfiguration in your php.ini file. Make sure the following is set in it:

register_argc_argv = On
safe_mode = Off

2) You have scheduled poller.php to run, instead of cactid.exe correct?

3) If you manually run poller.php with an admin account, are rrd files created?

4) Install the latest patches for cacti.

Q1 : I changed two options in php.ini but still same error message, and I modify the poller.php to disable the first block checking because I know I am going to run under commandline, then I ran it again, the error said "ERROR: opening 'G:\root\web\home.ausmis.com\cacti\rra\7402vgo_WAN.rrd':no such file or directory" , I guess it's premission's problem, but the rra folder has everyone/full control permission, so I don't know where should I put more.

Q2: I tried both and no luck at all.

Q3: I manually ran both under local administrator account and no rrd file at all.

Q4: I will do it this afternoon, but I think it's not going to solve the poller.php or cactid.exe's problem.

Thanks for your response.

I suggest you get cacti working with cmd.php first, before moving on to cactid. When you run: php <cacti root>/poller.php, do you get any error messages still? In your last debug, I didn't see any CACTI2RRD entries. Those are what updates/creates the rrd files. No, there is nothing you can manually do to invoke that.

You might want to read through my install guide in my signature for additional things you might have missed. Did you set the NTFS permissions on cmd.exe ?

OK, I will use cmd.php first to give it a try.

I got error message when I run : php <cacti root>/poller.php
"File 'c:\mysql\share\charsets\?.conf' not found (Errcode: 2)
Character set '#33' is not a compiled character set and is not specified in the 'c:\mysql\share\charsets\Index' file"

then popup dos windows show module not found ..

after 3 mins then come to this
"........... (many lines of "Waiting on 1/1 pollers.")
Waiting on 1/1 pollers.
Waiting on 1/1 pollers.
Waiting on 1/1 pollers.
12/05/2005 08:13:24 PM - POLLER: Poller[0] Maximum runtime of 296 seconds exceeded. Exiting."

and now checking log, I found some information like this

I have read your guide three times already, cmd.exe has proper permission set up already, nothing left from the guide. not sure what's the reason, maybe charsets ? because I use chinese(PRC) to handle un-unicode chars on windows 2000 server box.

I found the problem what happened with this charsets error

Hi guys!
Here You are OVERALL solution for 4.1 that makes Your php (for example) code "crosshosted" i.e. it will not depend on MySQL server charset options (it's very useful when host admin is not available :) ) :

After connecting (@mysql_connect) and selecting (@mysql_select_db) a database You should make the following:
$set = @mysql_query ('SET NAMES CP1251');
$set = @mysql_query ('SET COLLATION_CONNECTION=CP1251_GENERAL_CI');

may be just first SET is enough even.

---------------------------------------------------

is that possible for ppl who write poller.php to add these two SET into poller.php to make it works for Mysql 4.1.x with UTF8 defautl charset ? thanks.. I am trying to modify the poller.php but I don't think I am good enough to make it success.

Fixed the database issue, but still can't open the rrd file

when I run php poller.php

it come up very simple error :

ERROR: opening 'G:\root\web\home.ausmis.com\cacti\rra\7402vgo_Ehternet.rrd': No such file or directory
ERROR: opening 'G:\root\web\home.ausmis.com\cacti\rra\7402_vgo_bridge.rrd': No such file or directory
ERROR: opening 'G:\root\web\home.ausmis.com\cacti\rra\7402vgo_wireless.rrd': No such file or directory
ERROR: opening 'G:\root\web\home.ausmis.com\cacti\rra\7402vgo_WAN.rrd': No such file or directory

how can I fix this ?

1) are the rrd files present?
2) is cacti collecting the data?

no rrd files at all in rra folder, doesn't generate them at all.

Cacti run snmp query success and come back with some data, so I suppose cacti collect data all right.

it's database's problem, I changed mysql to Latin1 and still no luck, then I use 3.23.54 on linux box and try, everything are ok, can get all rrd file and show the graphics, still not sure why new mysql version doesn't work.

I still believe there are some problems like error message when I pull out all data and also can't monitor the win2k box's memory etc, but other things all goes well.
