Yes, I want to help. But I need more info. e.g. a screenshot from the device list showing all devices and the status of them. Then a screenshot of a single device from the device edit screen. At last a screenshot from the graphs display to have a look what is displayed (no graph, an empty graph, a weird graph or what).
Then, Please goto Settings and Switch logging to DEBUG. Run this at least for a single polling cycle and post your <path_cacti>/log/cacti.log (gzipped).

hi Reinhard,
attacht 3 pics. i hope this will help.
the logs you asked for r all empty.
i guess the system is not polling...
is that possible?
where can i chek this?
when i look in:
system utilities - snmp cache, there is a lot of data
when i look in:
system utilities - poller cache, this is empty...
i hope you can give me some advice....

Status unknown will prevent generating rrds. Goto Settings and change Downed Host Detection to "SNMP - Reliable". Watch your device list. Host should go "up".
To get more info, please switch to DEBUG mode (see: Settings -> General -> Poller Logging Level). Run your cacti poller for at least one polling cycle. Then have a look at <path_cacti>/log/cacti.log to see what's going wrong.
Optionally delete the cacti.log before if it's too huge.

i have changed the settings as you told.
the device state still is "unkown".
when i looked in:
- graph management
- select the device
- click on turn on graph debig mode
there comes a line said:
RRDTool Says:
ERROR: invalid rpn expression in: a,8,*
the logs stay empty.
al the logs i told in previous reply.
is it possible to force a poll?
somewhere a button which i can push "poll now"?
perhaps it is intersting to know....
the router is a wrt54G with dd-wrt firmware on .
greatings,

To be more precise: cacti installation tells you to change _the_ crontab. You will have to call the poller from crontab to get the data.
crontab may be /etc/crontab, /etc/cron.d/cacti, crontab of user root, crontab of user cactiuser (and maybe more). rpm install for my redhat distro generates /etc/cron.d/cacti.

I would not advise you to do so. See installation docs on how to configure the crontab at http://www.cacti.net/downloads/docs/htm ... _unix.html for unix. See step 7 in there.

ok,
your suggestion was to late..
the new install was already done, but, al your advise in previous posts i put in the new installation.
it seems im going a little further...
then i move the mouse over the "graphs", the cursos change in a little crossline. not the normal pointer.
i put in the stuff in the crontab.
the logs still keep empty.....
the cache poller now is going to be filled. there seems to be progress.
the device still is unknown. i dont knpw how to enable this.
i put it already to SNMP - Reliable.
stil the host status is unknown.
my crontab now looks like:
*/5 * * * * cacti php /usr/share/cacti/site/poller.php > /dev/null 2>&1
i guess this will be ok.
i hope the graphs r coming closer....

Please switch to DEBUG mode (see: Settings -> General -> Poller Logging Level).
To have a test, run your cacti poller from command line:
Code: Select all
php /usr/share/cacti/site/poller.php
