Cisco 6509 port description issue

Post by BigByte »

Hi I am currently deploying cacti for our monitoring needs and have a few questions. I have searched the forums but I am not seeing if you have answered this aleady.
I have a Cisco 6509 Catalyst switch w/ IOS that I am wanting to have automatic port description added. currently the standard field for this says

|host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifName|
which returns
6509 - Traffic - fa4/8

if I change it to
|host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifDescrip|
I get
6509 - Traffic - FastEthernet 4/8

I would rather get the real port description
6509 - Traffic - Bigbyte office

I know the real description is being seen becuase under Devices>"6509">"create graphs for this host" I can see all the Port descriptions listed.

i did try |query_ifAlias| but that did solve anything in fact it printed
6509 - Traffic - |query_ifAlias|

I know I must be missing something simple I just don't see it.

Thanks in Advance
Love the Product so far

You need to modify the interface.xml file and add the ifAlias informaton to it. I thought this was already done though...

Nope, you have to modify that file on the command line.
