Display Interface Alias (IF-MIB) as well as Name (IF-MIB)

Post by _Chris_ »

Hello,

I would like to know how to display on the titles of my graphs the alias of the interface (or its description) as well as its name.

It's definitively better to know immediately that the traffic on the interface Se0.102 - Link to Boston - of a router is huge rather than seeing only that there is a huge traffic on the interface Se0.102.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Chris

Your traffic graphs titles should be something like: |host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifIP| (|query_ifDescr|). Did you already edit the graph titles in Graph management?

Ok thanks.

How can I change that so that all the graphs display the description of the interfaces and not have to change that manually on all the devices?

And otherwise some of my graphs do display |query_ifname| instead of the value, why?

Cheers,

Chris

If you want to change it for all devices, edit the graph template you want to change. Then when you re-query each device, it should use the updated names.

Hi,

When I edit my graph template in: Templates/Graph Templates

I just have in the Graph Template section:

Title:

A checkbox ticked with "Use per-graph value (ignore this value)" and in the text field: |host_description| - Traffic

So I have not in this template the |query_ifName| (|query_ifDescr|)

It's the same in the datatemplate, in the Data Templates [edit: Interface - Traffic] for example.

I have in the section Data source: a field name Name with a checkbox ticked again with "Use Per-Data Source Value (Ignore this Value)" and in the text field: |host_description| - Traffic as well.

The only place where I found a text field with a |query_ifName| is when clicking on a specific graph in the graph management section, and precisely in the section Supplemental Graph Template Data, Graph Fields, Title: The name that is printed on the graph.

Here in the text field I have:
|host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifName|

As I said previously, I would like to automate the display of the description or alias of the interfaces on ALL my TRAFFIC graphs ( the existing graphes or the ones which will be added) and not change them manually.

As you said there should be an option in a template or else where you can specify the |query_ifDescription|but I can't find it, any idea?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Chris

The suggest values for the interface template lay in: Data Queries -> SNMP - Interface Statistics - > Select a graph template. Then you can see the suggested names cacti applies to them.

Hi,

I added the following:

|host_description| - Traffic - |query_ifIP| / |query_ifName| (|query_ifDescr|)

in the titles of the Graph Template - Interface - Traffic (bits/sec, Total Bandwidth) section.

I guess it will work for the new graphs I create but what about all the graphes I have?

And what are the names field in the Data Template - Interface - Traffic section, just above?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

You probably didnt see the updated graph because of your browser cache and/or web accleration software. Force a refresh and you should see the changes.

You'll have to manually change all your existing graphs and update the new display names.

Ok, that's a pain to have to change everything manually :/

What do you mean by "update the new display names."?

Thanks for your help

You said you wanted to change what the graph titles show. You'll have to manually do that for all your old graphs.
