Any issues with upgrading RRDtool from 1.0 to 1.2?
I'm going to upgrade my rrdtool from 1.0.xx to the latest 1.2 release. Will I have to convert all my .rra files? Will simply upgrading to 1.2 give me smoother fonts in my graphs?

Only thing I continually see is people not changing the version setting for RRDtool in Cacti.
Other than that, 1.0.x rrd can be read by 1.2.x. I'm unsure, at this point, if they get upgraded if you update them.

1) the png file sizes are a lot larger. rrdtool 1.0.49 they are around 4-6kb. rrdtool 1.2.9, they are about 26kb.
2) On slower servers, it takes a LOT longer to generate the graphs.
I'm still using rrdtool 1.0 for these reasons. *sigh*

I'm not getting graphs after RRDTOOL upgrade to 1.2.x
Heya Folks,
Using 0.8g on SuSe 9.1 with RRDtool 1.0x
I am not a Linux guru by any means. I updated my RRDTool using the install instructions on the rrdtool site and got a 2nd install...so I have both versions..one in /usr/bin and one in /usr/local/rrdtool1.2 (as I recall...I am not in front of the box just now)). I tried just changing the path under Settings but that did nothing but hose it all up. No graphs were displayed (blue boxes, red x's) at all. Go back to 1.0x path and all is well.
Reading the forums about updating I find this thread and the mention of "changing the rrdtool version". So I went looking but I can't seem to find where to do this...
Can you please point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Regards,
Chum

In the cacti website click on Settings. RRDTool version.

I've just updated to 1.2 from 1.0... found the appropiate setting in the config section, changed everything over.
But now I'm getting huge spikes. Nothings changed, the interfaces are the same on our router, the version of snmpd is the same. The only differences are an upgraded rrdtool and php (5.0.5 at the moment).
Anyone seen this?

Attached is my Settings page. Please don't say "Scroll Down" as only the "Other Defaults....Remove Verification" section is there. As you can see I have neither an RRDTool area on this page nor a tab for RRDTool at the top. No page on any tab has an area addressing my RRDTool version. I can indicate the path to the binary, but not the version.
Please note that I DO have the "Thresholds" mod (latest version...which is months old) installed.
Please advise and thank you for your assistance!

Chum

More information about my Cacti install
BSOD,
I forgot that this install has been updated at least once and maybe twice...it was possibly installed as 'c', then updated to 'd' (but might have been 'd' at installation)...then to 'g', which is the level it is at now.
Regards,
Chum

Doesn't look like you've properly upgraded to Cacti 0.8.6g as you are missing stuff in settings. I suggest you either reapply the 0.8.6g patch or download the full install of it.

No, they don't get upgared by simply updateing them. But when creating a new rrd, this will be TYPE 0003 instead of TYPE 0001 (verify by running file against them).rony wrote:Other than that, 1.0.x rrd can be read by 1.2.x. I'm unsure, at this point, if they get upgraded if you update them.
I'm only aware of a single incompatibility with rrdtool 1.2.11 when resizing TYPE 0001 files. Currently I would recommend to resize using rrdtool 1.0.x before upgrading (for those who feel the need for resizing).
rrdtool 1.2.x supports the TREND function and SLOPE mode, FONTS etc. pp.
