cactid is not updating rrd files

Post by jagbarcelo »

I have been using cacti-0.8.5 for quite a long time and now I have just upgraded to cacti-0.8.6g. Since cmd.php does not work anymore (I have not tried to fix it or make it work at all), I am now trying to set up cacti to use cacti-cactid-0.8.6f-1 (I downloaded Cactid Binaries for Windows in ZIP format).

Cactid seems to connect to MySQL and start polling my datasources but my rrd files are not updated at all. They are not even updated when running cactid from the command line (with admin privilleges) so write permissions are not the problem.

I have also set the Poller Logging Level to MEDIUM - Statistics, Errors and Results but I can't get any error or warning related to rrd files in it. However, I get the following in the console (when running cactid manually, this is not logged in the file):

No log handling enabled - turning on stderr logging
IP-MIB: Module not found
IF-MIB: Module not found
TCP-MIB: Module not found
UDP-MIB: Module not found
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB: Module not found
SNMPv2-MIB: Module not found
RFC1213-MIB: Module not found
SNMPv2-SMI: Module not found
NOTIFICATION-LOG-MIB: Module not found
UCD-SNMP-MIB: Module not found
UCD-DEMO-MIB: Module not found
SNMP-TARGET-MIB: Module not found
NET-SNMP-AGENT-MIB: Module not found
SNMP-VIEW-BASED-ACM-MIB: Module not found
SNMP-COMMUNITY-MIB: Module not found
UCD-DLMOD-MIB: Module not found
SNMP-FRAMEWORK-MIB: Module not found
SNMP-MPD-MIB: Module not found
SNMP-USER-BASED-SM-MIB: Module not found
SNMP-NOTIFICATION-MIB: Module not found
SNMPv2-TM: Module not found

Might that be the reason?

BTW: I have just noticed that a C:\var\net-snmp directory with a file called cactid.conf has been created somehow in my server. Is this the correct place for it? What is this file for?

Regards.

I suggest you read the guide in my signature.

First you need to get cmd.php working before you move on to cactid. All those MIB errors are because you didn't point the MIBDIRS variable to the location of the MIB files in the php directory.

What versions of everything are you using?

Yes, you are right. I needed to read the install guide becase there were additional steps to be done even though my case was an upgrade.

I just read the windows upgrade guide and there was no advise about defining the environment variables MIBDIRS and PHPRC. My old version of cacti worked fine without them.

Also, one very important note, you must run poller.php to update your RRD files in the current version of Cacti. RRDtool updates occur there.

If you have been running for quite a while without running it, you PHP process may not work for you due to the large amount of PHP memory required to return all the records required to perform the update.

Increasing PHP memory may help with this issue.
