v0.8.6g upgrade = Loss of historical data.

Post by Coastie »

I upgraded from v0.8.6c to v0.8.6g (with all pre-patched files) and all previous data was lost.

I restored a backup and upgraded from 0.8.6c to 0.8.6f and all was fine.

Then I tried to go from another fresh download and install of 0.8.6g (f to g) and again all past data was lost.

restored backup again, then upgraded to f once more.

I am currently running OK on 0.8.6f

RHEL4
php 4.3.9
MySql 4.1.12
rrdtool 1.0.49

How?

Did you erase the rra directory?

no, the rra folder was copied over,(just verified again) and I did the install/upgrade twice just to make sure I didn't miss anything and/or the tar.gz file was not corrupted in any way. The SQL changes all passed, the upgrade seemed to work as intended. I don't know what the cause of the missing historical is, seems odd since v.f is working.

I tried the upgrade to v.g from both v.c and v.f with the same results, loss of historical data.

Take no offence by this, but you are doing something wrong. Other people, including myself don't loose historical data (rra files) when we upgrade.

I tried it a few times yesterday, and had 2 successful upgrades to v.f, but it is possible. I'll give it a shot again now (a new day) and see how it goes. I'll report back in a bit.

upgraded to v.g again today, this time keeping old data, but new graphs were not generated, basically the exact opposite problem as last time.

Having done this about 8 times now, I’m positive that I am not missing anything included in this how-to http://www.cacti.net/downloads/docs/html/upgrade.html

I'll stick with v.f for now, and try again after the next release.

it's probably a permissions thing

i upgraded mine just recently and just about everything went smoothly, except i just noticed that about half of the windows 2003 servers hard drives and RAM graphs stopped getting data. i looked at the dates on the rra files and sure enough they we're updating.

i created a new test server to make sure nothing had happened all of a sudden to the windows 2003 snmp service (like a hotfix stuffing things up)...

i mucked around for a while and did the unthinkable and did a chmod 777 -R * under /var/www/html/cacti directory.

that will learn it. it's an internal server only which only i use and have access to so i wasn't too worried about security of the pages.

I checked the chmod/chown properties, they were the same as the v.c and v.f scripts.

on another note, I upgraded to the latest rrdtool and the graphs look very nice!
