SNMP error

Post by cayassir »

hi, I´ve been trying to install cacti for tow days now, and I still get the same results....

I´m using:

Apache 1.3.3 win 32
PHP 4.4.0 win32
Mysql4.0.26 win 32
net-snmp-5.2.2.pre1-1.win32
cacti-0.8.6g
ActivePerl-5.8.7.813-MSWin32-x86-148120
cacti-cactid-0.8.6f
rrdtool-1.0.49-win32-bin

I did everything it says in the instalation guide under windows....

it seems to work fine until I try to create a new host, I get this message SNMP error.. the screen I get is attached....

I don´t get any information in the SNMP cache... and this is what I have in the cacti log file:

10/30/2005 05:24:01 PM - SYSTEM STATS: Time:1.0154 Method:cmd.php Processes:1 Threads:N/A Hosts:2 HostsPerProcess:2 DataSources:0 RRDsProcessed:0
10/30/2005 05:24:00 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] ERROR: Either there are no items in the cache or polling is disabled

I´m gettin desperate....

please I realy need to make it work as fast as is possible...

1) Follow the windows guide in my signature
2) You MUST use the Cygwin RRDTool, NOT the Win32 one!
3) Try connecting to localhost with GetIF (google it) and see if you get any snmp info, I bet not. Check your AV and firewall settings to allow SNMP traffic. You did install the snmp service, right?

I did what you say... still the same problem... when I run this script to test the snmp service "snmptranslate -IR -Td IF-MIB::linkDown", this is what I get:

1) You wanted to use snmpget or snmpwalk.
2) Getif didnt work on your local machine either? Is the SNMP service running? Did you specify a public community and/or limit who can connect to it ?

I've never installed the net-snmp service, so you'll have to read the manual/readme. I believe it should automatically install itself as a service though. If thats the case, then you must make sure the Microsoft SNMP Agent is not running.

Man I did this:

- uninstall net-snmp.
- run the Microsoft SNMP Agent that was not runing.

and it worked fine.. my question is, why should I install the net-snmp.. or I don´t need it....

Thaks anyway....

I find there is no reason to use the Net-SNMP SNMP agent if the Microsoft one is working fine. But you might need to use the net-snmp snmpwalk and snmpget tools either in cacti or by themselves for debugging.

Agreed. Net-SNMP is a development/validation tool and will add some speed to Cacti querying in the next point release.
