Data source and query_ifSpeed

Post by SRY »

While documenting some CDEFs I have come across the following and I am not sure how this is handled, I have been looking at the percent utilisation using the query_ifSpeed and the CDEF that defines "a,|query_ifSpeed|,/".

Can anybody explain how the result works as "a" should be returned in Bytes, as it is not divided by 8 and "query_ifSpeed" is retuned in bits. Therefore are we comparing apples and oranges or does Cacti do something in the background so that we are comparing apples to apples.

:-?

Thanks TheWitness

I have discovered the flaw in my CDEF which I am fixing now. I was using the following which got me close on the percentage used but was not correct:

a,|query_ifSpeed|,/,100,*,8,*

Should be

a,8,*,|query_ifSpeed|,/,100,*

And sorry for posting this here as I meant to put it in Help:General.

I have added a full explanation of my CDEFs to the following topic towards the end of the page.
