data sources not created automatically

Post by chesty »

When I add a new cicso device using the provided cisco host template, and create a new graph, it creates data sources automatically, and everything just works.

When I add a new UPS device using a host template (and data and graph template) I created myself, I need to manually add data sources before it works.

What's going on here?

Also, is there a step by step tutorial that goes through creating data, graph and host templates? I've read the docs, which are good, but would like something I can follow step by step.

Unless you use the "create graphs for this host" in the device, you will have to manually create the data and graph template. Thats just the way cacti works.

Short of the Cacti manual, there is no official how-to on creating a new data input method and associated templates (that I know of). I learned by looking at others and trial and error.

cool, thanks. That ends much frustration.

There's still something different about the template I made and the cisco one, I don't need to click create graphs for this host with the cisco one. But I'm happy now.
