Looking for a threshold alerting option w/ traping ability

Fairly new to cacti and am VERY impressed with its interface and the graphing ability. I am interested in findiing out if anyone is doing any threshold alerting on a large scale with the ability to send traps to other NMS systems such as nerve center or netcool, and how their experiences have been.

Oh yeah one other thing...

how about process monitoring and log file/NT event log scanning? Does anyone know of any open source - (preferrably with integration into cacti) plugin/addon with this functionality?
