Can't generate graps for Tenor AXT

Post by zaman »

My cacti server is running fine on Redhat 9.0 while I got a problem to generate graphs for Quintum AXT2400. I could create graphs for Cisco, Linksys devices, HP servers and even Quintum A800 boxes without any difficulties. But when I go for AXT 2400, my trap/cacti server generates an error saying 'snmp error' while trying to add the device. SNMP part in AXT is configured correctly with correct community. And tried both cisco and generic snmp enabled setting.

Any help/suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

When you try to create that device, what do you see in the upper left corner of the screen? Is there any error message displayed in red? What does the device return, if you do a snmpwalk with OID=system?

Hello lvm,

Yes I see the error in red at the upper left corner saying "snmp error" under SNMP Information while trying to create the device and in the device properties. This specific device is shown "down" in the device list as well.

I'm not sure what did you mean by "snmpwalk with OID=system" but in the snmp cache I see the following (if it helps):

Here we are. Until this red message is gone, you won't be happy :cry:
snmpwalk means:

Code: Select all

snmpwalk -c <your community string> -v <the snmp version you are using> <hostname> system
This tests your <hostname> for snmp. Please use the correct community string for your AXT. Try -v 1 if you don't know whether snmp version 2c is understood. Please post your results

Hi,

These are the results:

[root@rnd root]# snmpwalk -c tenoraxtgw -v 1 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx system
SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING:
SNMPv2-MIB::sysObjectID.0 = OID: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.6618.1.1.10
SNMPv2-MIB::sysUpTime.0 = Timeticks: (19535200) 2 days, 6:15:52.00
SNMPv2-MIB::sysContact.0 = STRING:
SNMPv2-MIB::sysName.0 = STRING:
SNMPv2-MIB::sysLocation.0 = STRING:
SNMPv2-MIB::sysServices.0 = INTEGER: 79

[root@rnd root]# snmpwalk -c tenoraxtgw -v 2c xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx system
SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING:
SNMPv2-MIB::sysObjectID.0 = OID: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.6618.1.1.10
SNMPv2-MIB::sysUpTime.0 = Timeticks: (19551600) 2 days, 6:18:36.00
SNMPv2-MIB::sysContact.0 = STRING:
SNMPv2-MIB::sysName.0 = STRING:
SNMPv2-MIB::sysLocation.0 = STRING:
SNMPv2-MIB::sysServices.0 = INTEGER: 79

** xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx replaces IP Address of AXT.

Ok, that looks very fine. When creating your device, did you specify the some community string? May you please post a screenshot of this device screen if it still fails (you may of course wipe out the community string to keep it secret; assuming you double checked it ist the same as the one used at cli).

I don't believe that I did a mistake to set a common community in both AXT and Cact for this specific device. Still here is the snmp config in AXT:

-MasterChassis-1
/*----------------
SNMPSysLocation: (Not Set) (location info for SNMP)
SNMPSysContact: (Not Set) (contact info for SNMP)
SNMPSysDescription: (Not Set) (SNMP Description)
SNMPSysName: (Not Set) (System name for SNMP)
SNMPTrapIP1: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx replaces Cacti box IP Address)
SNMPTrapIP2: 0.0.0.0
SNMPTrapIP3: 0.0.0.0
SNMPPublicCommunity: tenoraxtgw (id information)
------------------*/

By the way, I found a MIB and snmp implementation guide for Quintum posted on their website but not sure about its usage. you may have a look:

http://www.quintum.com/support/xplatfor ... um.mib.txt

http://www.quintum.com/support/xplatfor ... g_SNMP.pdf

Just sent them a mail asking about it and seems they are not going to respond in weekend.

There migth be the old issue with SysDescription described and solved in http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=6515 (setting SysDescription of your device would help).
Another question: What are the Settings for Downed Host Detection? I ask this due to the fact, that there are several host down detection methods (see Settings -> select the tab Poller and look at Downed Host Detection). Select SNMP Host Detection if ping doesn't work (the ping is a UDP ping to some port around 32.000 or the like).

This issue is resolved by adding device description and name in AXT.

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by "same problem". If you are getting snmp error when adding device, just add some texts under snmp server>system info>system description & under system name fields in your tenor box. If using CLI you should find those fields under mc config and I believe it should be fine now if nothing else is there.

Yes the same problem that mean "snmp error" when adding quintum device.
I have do what you say "adding some description to my nsmp server for quintum" but "snmp error" is allready here.
and I have test snmpwalk the result is not response, with the same command and a 1G quintum it return the information like your quintum.

please some help? is there a script to add for those quintums (AX800, AXM800, DX800)

Thx

Make sure u got a common community string in both quintum and cacti for an specific device. Agin within quintum u need to add a name and description to get snmp response (it applies for 2nd generation tenors only). Generic snmp enabled host as host template should work for any quintum boxes. Nothing else should bug you if it's a working cacti box.
