external rrd files

[cacti_newbie]

I have like others in the forum been getting stats via rrdtool and php created web/graph pages.

I have recently installed cacti on FC3 and everything seems to be ok but, when I use an existing rrd file as a data source I have the graph but no data shows....I have an external script inserting data into the rrd file so I just want cacti ti view it...I have the rra's set up ok and the graphs that's generated seems good.

Do i have to run the poller.php from cron even if I'm not using cacti to gather the data??

I just wanted cacti to view the rrd's not update them.

any help would be appreciated.

You will have to define a Graph Template, Data Query, Data Input Method. as decribed in http://www.cacti.net/downloads/docs/htm ... thods.html. When creating the Data Template, please uncheck Data Source Active. When defining the Graph Template, it might be useful to get the rrd info unsing rrdtool info <your existing rrd>. Look for ds[xxx].type= items.
Please generate the Graph for your host as usual, referring to the newly generated Graph Template. Then goto Data Sources, select the generated Graph an change the filename of the rrd to the filename of your existing rrd.
